Lay-Up

The principle of inertia is that if an object is initially released, at the same instant, the ball is traveling at the same velocity when it is released. This is demonstrated by a running shot similar to Jeff Hornacek of the Utah Jazz. Whay Jeff has done is take inertia into account along with the horizontal and vertical velocity. By not pushing the shot towards the basket, he doesn't add velocity to the ball. Rather, allowing his running speed that he is traveling to be the horizontal velocity. If done 2 to 3 feet from the basket, the ball should arch nicely into the basket for a beautiful lay-up. |
